David Bowie picks up the award for best male singer

In this clip from the 1980 British Rock & Pop Awards we see David Bowie receive the award for Best Male Singer. Other nominees were Gary Numan, Cliff Richard and Paul McCartney.

The show was presented by Radio One DJ Dave Lee Travis, and presented by collaborator, and former lover, Lulu.

Bowie’s acceptance speech was typically brief: “Firstly I’d take this opportunity of not saying very much but, thank you very much indeed, I do appreciate it.”
